As in antiquity, Apollo Claros holy area has an important place in Anatolian and world
archeology today, as well. The hecatomb (a public sacrifice of 100 oxen to the gods)
often mentioned by antic writers is the world’s only work of art found in a holy area. The
hecatomb uncovered in Claros is the proof of such a ritual of animal sacrifice. Moreover,
Apollon ve Artemis) tamamlanmıştır. Apollon tapınağının 27 metre doğusunda 9 x
18 metre boyutlarında Hellenistik Apollon sunağı bulunmaktadır. Sunakta ele geçen
parçalardan anlaşıldığına göre, sunağın üstündeki iki adet kurban masasından biri
Apollon’a, diğeri Dionysos’a adanmıştı.
