He was born in Istanbul. Ahmet Ali Pasha got interested in painting while he was studying
in the medical faculty. In 1864, he was sent to Paris where he worked at the studios of
Gustave Boulanger and Jean-Léon Gérôme. He returned to Turkey in 1871. He started
teaching painting and the Medical Faculty and became a royal office painter. He became a
lieutenant general in the Ottoman Army. He was the pioneer of natural realist movement
in Turkey.
İstanbul’da doğdu. Tıbbiyeden öğrenciyken resme ilgi duydu ve 1864’te Paris’e
gönderildi. Boulanger ve Gerome Atölyelerine gitti. 1871’de Yurda döndü. Tıbbiye’de
res.öğretmeni ve mabeyn ressamı oldu. Korgeneralliğe yükseldi. Doğal gerçekçi akımın
Türkiye öncüsü oldu.
