Namık İsmail was born in Istanbul. He gained admission to the School of Fine Arts and
then went to France and Germany. He was awarded a diploma upon his graduation from
Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts. The artist is especially known for successful portraits in his
war paintings. He became aware of the importance of decoration arts and founded the
Department of Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts.
İstanbul’da doğdu. Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi’ne girdi, sonra Fransa ve Almanya’ya gitti.
Leipzig Güz. San. Akademisi’nden diploma aldı. Savaş resimlerinde portreleri çok
başarılıdır. Süsleme sanatlarının modern dünyadaki rolünü anladı ve Akademi Md.’nde
süsleme bölümü açtı.
